Making plenty of enemies for just saying what I think, I didn’t like Rushmore at all. What a travesty.
Plot is: young super geek at the academy geeking about not accepted by ppl ofc but ofc superbly genius writing plays n this n that falls for nice modest teacher who is ofc very attractive in her looking like a pile of shit cos that s the hot thing to look like if u r a teacher cultured arty young lady but then his friend a very rich man falls for her too but who can blame him since she s so attractive after all. Then there s war between the two men n in the end there s stupid play n all r happy.
I do appreciate Wes Anderson yet this film is a blunder. I was first into watching it because the cinematography n photography is of course very good I have to admit. N I kept waiting n waiting growing more n more aggravated, waiting for the point that never came. Cos there was simply no point. What a disappointment too cos the acting wasn’t bad either. But the rest, it was all over the place. The relations between the characters lacked any sense, n that in a bad way. The dialogues were not funny n completely dislocated n unrealistic, except for a few moments, a feast of randomness. I like random, I love random, but it should lead up to something. I will oppose just random for the lack of inspiration n random just for the sake of it n I much doubt this was even the intention of the makers. But that s what u get when u think u create an indie film just to be indie. People are wandering around aimlessly, being sad for no reason, saying things that mean fuck all and absolutely nothing in ways not one human being on earth would, reacting insanely odd to things n well just looking cool because of exploiting the natural assets of the protagonists. Also a guy in glasses doesn’t constitute an awesome film. An ugly woman in totally ugly clothes being sophisticated as ever is not cool or indie n not insanely desirable and of course also doesn’t constitute an awesome film. N so also a bunch of loony kids dressed up doesn’t constitute a cool film. Yes I saw the effort in reviving the 60s or the 70s but it was a bad one that failed entirely. N yes I also saw the desire to capture something of Woody Allen n something of the French Nouvelle Vague but that also failed. I was overwhelmed by all the trying n if u have to try too hard it doesn’t sound very promising to me. If you however love this completely pointless nonsense of a film n don’t mind wasting ur time on something entirely predictable n meaningless because u r very indie n so r just forced to act as if u like it anyhow then u might thinks this review is random n pointless n since u r a fan of this u r not allowed to hate it anyhow.
further majestic element of the pathetic: the american dream depicted. how a loser so special is taking over everythg n yes everyone can succeed n will succeed n will also be happy with another ugly girl, different from the ugly girl he is in love with, cos hey u cant be happy n single ofc. but yay u r an oddball genius n a bit hated but in the end u ll take over the world...
ah yes n wtf with all the enigmatic element also. like the poetically charged ending.. speechless.
the soundtrack was very lovely however. i did like it.
